It is not every day you get to taste 6 older vintages with a few Bordeaux classics thrown in! Ranking the 6 wines we tasted was difficult but the clear winner amongst all the media and trade at the event was the Morgenster Reserve 2004! It also happened to be my best wine. The strategy of Giulio Bertrand, owner of Morgenster, is to make wines that age gracefully and elegantly. There is no doubt that these wines hit the mark. The Tosca and it was perfectly matched with delicious steak tartare prepared by chef Georgio Nava of 93 Keerom. I am a little nervous of steak tartare but was a fantastic match. The Morgenster NU Sangiovese was matched with a raw smoked pork fillet - just sublime. Do stock up now on the 2011, another excellent vintage from a classic and charming producer.
