Morgenster has released the third vintage of Sauvignon Blanc in its NU (pronounced ‘new”) range.
Morgenster NU Series 1 Sauvignon Blanc 2015
has once again been produced as a fruity styled wine made from young vines. As
the Estate’s Sauvignon Blanc vineyards are not producing yet the 2015 vintage
has been made from grapes bought in from a neighbouring farm.
Winemaker Henry Kotzé says that Morgenster’s NU Series wines
are made in an accessible style to suit a wide range of tastes and priced to
appeal to younger and every day wine drinkers. “It’s a single varietal range and
showcases the grapes coming from our new vines as part of our replanting
programme. Currently we have a Merlot 2012, Cabernet Sauvignon 2012, Sangiovese
2015 and Sauvignon Blanc 2015".
Typically Sauvignon Blanc on the nose, with a
more diverse aroma profile from being picked a bit riper. It displays papaya,
rock melon, jasmine and elder flowers and mango notes. The palate reveals a
full, voluptuous wine displaying great balance and volume. The soft lingering
acidity gives way to a sweet concentration of fruit, with some herbaceious
austerity adding to its interest. Henry says it is lovely on its own at any
time and a great accompaniment to food. Salads, fish or poultry dishes would
make a good match.
