For the first time Morgenster wines will be stocked by Checkers in 14 of its Gauteng and 11 of its Western Cape stores. The three wines selected by Checkers are from Morgenster’s NU (pronounced “new”) range of single varietal wines which are made from the Estate’s young vines to highlight the building blocks of Morgenster’s Bordeaux blends.
Henry Kotzé, the cellar master at Morgenster says that the wines highlight the building blocks of the Estate’s Bordeaux blends and display typical Morgenster traits such as exuberant fruit and velvety soft tannins which broaden the palate weight.
“They are pitched at new, younger wine drinkers and are priced for every day drinking”, Kotze says, adding that enthusiasts of Morgenster’s Bordeaux blends will also enjoy sampling the single varietals in their infancy.
The wines appear under a fresh grey and chartreuse label and are:
Morgenster NU Series 1 Cabernet Sauvignon 2012
Lush concentrated cassis fruit and capsicum with minty eucalyptus tease the nose, while in the mouth, rich red fruit, black currants, cherries and plums abound with undertones of warm spice and tobacco. RSP @ R84.99
Morgenster NU Series 1 Merlot 2013
Red and black berries, as well as classic pencil shaving and cedar notes delight the nose and palate, with just enough fine tannin to broaden the palate weight to add to a very fruit driven experience. RSP @ R84.99
Morgenster NU Series 1 Sauvignon Blanc 2016
Tropical aromas abound with litchi, melon and mango notes floating above hints of paprika and thyme. In the mouth a soft lingering acidity gives way to a sweet concentration of fruit on the palate with some interesting herbaceous notes. RSP @ R74.99
