It was a smaller than usual crop but excellent quality prevailed. For Morgenster, the 2010 vintage can be tipped as a winner.

Colour: Deep ruby red.
Nose: Ripe, expressive and welcoming nose gets one off to a good start. Additional scents include light toasted tobacco, liquorice, spice, herbs and of course red and black berry fruit.
Palate: Youthful, lovely sweet entry with just enough intensity and mouth feel. The complexity of the aromatics is equaled in the palate flavour profile. It's not a heavyweight and has moderate tannins. One feels seduced by this modern styled wine’s elegance and balance rather than by sheer power, as is the tendency from this vintage. The fruit is sweet and inviting, while the finish is long and consistent.

Morgenster Lourens River Valley 2005
Colour: Concentrated and vibrant; dark mulberry red.
Nose: This wine carries a subtle perfume of wild flowers, sub-tropical fruit, cinnamon and vanilla oak spice.
Palate: The palate senses blackcurrants, liquorice and spice, a freshly integrated, balanced acid and tannin ratio with youthful expression. The tannins have a firm grip that show the long path of evolution ahead, but they are certainly neither 'clawy' nor aggressive. The future bodes well for this 2005 vintage.

Morgenster Lourens River Valley 2002
Colour: A true reflection of the vintage, wines of distinction were produced; one of very few that reflects vibrant colour; a deep centre with an attractive stable Burgundian red tint.
Nose: Earthy, spicy aromas support and amplify nuances of liquorice, cinnamon, chocolate, mocha and vanilla. The bouquet reminds one of the scent of our indigenous plant fynbos; its herbaceous character. Aeration will release flavourful esters of dark mulberry, plum and strong red grape aromas.
Palate: The stimulation on the palate is mild and expressive to show great personality. Finely knitted tannins interlacing the spice and fruit flavour to offer a fresh entry with good structure and length to a pleasant finish. The character lingers and leaves a pleasant dryness.

Colour: Plum red with a concentrated core depth demonstrates the richness of the wine.
Nose: Aromas of black cherry, cassis, strawberry shortcake, toast and cedar.
Palate: The entry offers sweet nuances with toasty oak, a medley of fresh ripe berries and notes of marzipan and vanilla. The oak-spice compliments the fruit and expresses a good layer of acid and tannin balance. The mouth-feel is complimented by a well textured mid-palate weight, great overall elegance without presence of clumsiness on the finish.

Morgenster Lourens River Valley 2000
Colour: Strikingly fresh, concentrated and deep plum colour.
Nose: Fresh nuances of cherry, blackcurrant and liquorice carried by undertones of vanilla spice and some oak wood. A flinty, earthy, mushroom (or is it truffles) as a second nose gives one the impression of a unique, terroir-specific character rather than a certain cultivar expression.
Palate: The rather sweet nuances of the dominating Merlot component offers exactly those fruit flavours carried from the first impression. A classic style with a subtle mouth feel brought upon by the successful marriage of the components.
