Morgenster Estate Reserve 2005 magnum
Colour: Deep, concentrated burgundy red; reminiscent of heavy velvet drapes.
Nose:The first impression is clearly a lovely, rich dark chocolate with attractive spicy support. There are nuances of black cherries, black berries and ripe plums.
Palate:Slightly candy-coated tannins that create the impression of the interaction between fruit, acid and tannin. The black cherries on the nose come through to the palate as cherry kernels; marzipan and stone fruit. The finish is impressively long.

Colour: Dense purple with great depth and concentration.
Nose: Terrific intensity and purity highlight a gorgeous perfume of sweet black cherries, roast herbs, meat juices, kirsch, blackberries, spice ... as the wine evolves the aromas come in waves.
Palate: If pressed for a one word descriptor, opulent would be the word for the 2004 Flagship of the Morgenster Estate. It's full bodied with more structure, tannin and delineation than the top vintages 2003 and 2001.

Morgenster Estate Reserve 2003 magnum -  SOLD OUT
Colour: Saturated ruby red.
Nose: Sexy aromas of dark berries, cassis and kirsch, hints of chocolate and mocha.
Palate: The palate impression offers ripe fruit, bedded in finely knitted ripe tannins. All these combine to assail the palate with a level of density, structure and viscosity to offer an outstanding mouth-feel. A liquid velvet texture is transformed by a rocky, minerally element. A complete wine with a classic elegance and excellent finish.

Alc: 13.5  RS: <2.5  pH: 3.65  TA: 5.9  VA:  SO2:  FSO2:

Nose: Starts out more herbaceous with lavender and thyme in the lead. Cabernet franc much more predominant with some whiffs of coffee. Then comes the cassis, raspberry and perfumey rose petals.
Palate: Elegant and accessible entry, fullness is a given. A seamlessly put together palate. Beautiful balance of fruit, wood and acidity.

Morgenster Lourens River Valley 2006 magnum -  SOLD OUT
Colour: Deep ruby red.
Nose: Ripe, expressive and welcoming nose gets one off to a good start. Additional scents include light toasted tobacco, liquorice, spice, herbs and of course red and black berry fruit.
Palate: Youthful, lovely sweet entry with just enough intensity and mouth feel. The complexity of the aromatics is equaled in the palate flavour profile. It's not a heavyweight and has moderate tannins. One feels seduced by this modern styled wine’s elegance and balance rather than by sheer power, as is the tendency from this vintage. The fruit is sweet and inviting, while the finish is long and consistent.

Morgenster Lourens River Valley 2003 magnum -  SOLD OUT
Colour: Deep ruby-red.
Nose: Extremely elegant aromas of ripe red fruits, plum, cinnamon, liquorice, blond tobacco and a strong, mineral streak.
Palate: Silky sweet in the mouth, with beautiful ripe fruit that's still young and wound tight. The finish is 'text book' fine-grain tannins and superb subtle persistence. Give this wine some special treatment by decanting it about an hour prior to serving and it will reward your efforts by emphasising these characteristics.

Morgenster Lourens River Valley 2002 magnum -  SOLD OUT
Colour: A true reflection of the vintage, wines of distinction were produced; one of very few that reflects vibrant colour; a deep centre with an attractive stable Burgundian red tint.
Nose: Earthy, spicy aromas support and amplify nuances of liquorice, cinnamon, chocolate, mocha and vanilla. The bouquet reminds one of the scent of our indigenous plant fynbos; its herbaceous character. Aeration will release flavourful esters of dark mulberry, plum and strong red grape aromas.
Palate: The stimulation on the palate is mild and expressive to show great personality. Finely knitted tannins interlacing the spice and fruit flavour to offer a fresh entry with good structure and length to a pleasant finish. The character lingers and leaves a pleasant dryness.
